Govt hunts for new Auditor General

The Government has started hunting for the country’s new Auditor General to replace Mrs Mildred Chiri, who retired last year after serving the office for nearly four decades.In a statement issued on Sunday, the Office of the Auditor General said applications are invited from highly competent and qualified persons to fill the following position which has arisen in the Office of the Auditor-General.
“The Auditor General (AG) is responsible for the fulfillment of the overall OAG mandate. He/she leads and oversees the public sector’s auditing and accountability functions, read the statement

“He/she provides strategic, policy, operational direction, technical support and ensures that the audits and investigations are conducted as per the provisions of the law, professional standards, best practices and GAG board mandate.”.

It further said the prospective candidate must provide an independent and objective assessment of the merits of public sector operations, programs, and financial management to Parliament and the public.
