HEALTH and Child Care Minister Dr David Parirenyatwa has intervened in the dispute between four Parirenyatwa doctors and the Health Services Board.

HSB suspended the junior doctors last week accusing them of embarking on an illegal industrial action.

The doctors all form the executive committee of the Zimbabwe Hospital Doctors Association (ZHDA).

They are Fortune Nyamande (president), Gadzirai Edson Makoni (secretary general), Rusununguko Kanyongo (treasurer) and Hugh Manyere (vice president).

Dr Parirenyatwa said his office was treating the issue as a priority.

“I am working very hard that we sort out this issue on doctors with the Health Services Board (HSB),” said Dr Parirenyatwa.

He met both the doctors and HSB on Friday and negotiations are underway to find an amicable solution to the impasse.

“I have called the doctors. I have also called the Health Services Board and we had discussions. The discussions are on-going,” said Dr Parirenyatwa.

The HSB suspended the four on allegations of inciting fellow doctors to go on strike.

The HSB also alleges that the doctors publicly attacked the persons of Dr Parirenyatwa and of some HSB members.

The four are on suspension until May 4, 2016 pending investigations and possible disciplinary hearings.

The allegations against the doctors were all based on media reports.

The ZDHA has since distanced itself from some of the sentiments that were published in The Daily News and in an online publication as the association’s position.

It has also committed to engage and participate fully in any dialogue.

“The ZHDA executive committee acknowledges the initiative by the Minister of Health to urgently resolve the impasse. We agree that a solution will be in the best interests of Zimbabwe, patients, doctors and public good,” it said.
