Govt owes fertiliser firms

He said Treasury recently released US$8, 5 million to the fertiliser companies as part payment of the amount Government owes them.
Minister Made said although the inputs suppliers were still owed money they were prepared to work with the Government during the forthcoming winter cropping season.

The fertilisr industry has since availed 7 800 tonnes of basal fertilisers and 18 500 tonnes of top dressing fertilisers on the market.
Minister Made said the companies had since indicated that if the cash flow challenges were addressed, they had the capacity to produce fertiliser in excess of 50 000 tonnes of basal and 40 000 tonnes top dressing.
A total of 18 000 tonnes of basal and 14 000 tonnes of top dressing fertilisers are required this year for the winter cropping season.
