Forestry Commission general manager Chemist Gumbie said they would start with areas in Matabeleland South and parts of the Midlands before they move to other areas.

“The objective is to get enough resources and then produce a comprehensive report of what is there and where,” said Mr Gumbie. “To date we know that our forestry resources are contributing at least four percent to the Gross Domestic Product and that means if we could tell what is on the ground better the contribution would be enhanced.”
Mr Gumbie said Zimbabwe was still suffering from rampant deforestation.
