Govt supports modern surgical equipment

techniques.
Addressing surgeons at a recent laparoscopic workshop in Harare, Health and Child Welfare Minister Henry Madzorera said: “I am particularly pleased that Zimbabwean professionals are embracing technological advances and are guaranteed of my ministry’s unwavering support.”
The new technologies being introduced are the Karl Storz HD Camera System and the Harmoc Scalpel.
The Karl Storz HD Camera System provides high definition three dimensional clarity pictures.
This boosts accuracy and safety as well as minimal blood loss and contamination.
The Harmoc Scalpel is the latest surgical incision device for all types of surgery. It uses sound energy to cutthrough tissues in a virtually bloodless manner.
“This is of immense importance in our region where the incidence of HIV, albeit subsiding, is still unacceptably high.
“I therefore commend this workshop for the benefit of patients, the country and for the advancement of the practice of surgery,” Minister Madzorera said.
He urged surgeons to mentor their juniors.
“I sincerely hope you will over the next few years be in acceleration mode to train younger surgeons to perpetuate your dreams.”
Senior urological, obstetrics and gynaecology, paediatric and general surgeons attended the workshop, which ran under the theme: “Minimal invasive surgery in Zimbabwe; witnessing future surgery today.”
