WARRIORS defender Munashe Garan’anga is quietly making a mark in Europe where he has won the Danish Superliga title with FC Copenhagen.
Garan’anga joined FC Copenhagen this season from KV Mechelen, which is still the home of his Warriors’ teammate, Bill Antonio in Belgium.
Copenhagen capped off the season in fashion in a must-win fixture by thrashing Nordsjaelland 3-0.
Garan’anga featured 11 times on his debut season and it was his second championship in Europe having won his first with Moldovan’s Sheriff Tiraspol.
The 24-year-old was playing for South Africa’s Ubuntu Cape Town before making the grade in Europe.
He also had brief stints with Dynamo Brest.
The giant defender was teammates with Dynamos’ midfielder, Temptation Chiwunga, who was the captain of the Cape Town-based side.
They later went separate ways when Garan’anga moved to Europe as Chiwunga moved to join JDR Stars.
Chiwunga told Zimpapers Sport that he knew from their time at Ubuntu Cape Town that Garan’anga was destined to play better leagues.
“He was always focused just like any foreign player during our time at Ubuntu. But I always believed in his talent and I would always encourage him to keep his head high.
“I believe he will make it in Europe’s best three leagues very soon because of his determination and passion.
“It is also good that he is playing in better leagues at a good age and he has enough room to improve his game, he was always a promising talent and I’m very happy for him,” said Chiwunga.
Chiwunga was excused by DeMbare for the last two games as he has been mourning his brother who passed away in South Africa.
Garan’anga was at the heart of Warriors defence during the AFCON qualifiers which saw Zimbabwe securing their ticket to Morocco in December.
He is also expected to travel to Casablanca, Morocco, where Warriors are scheduled to play two friendly games.
Zimbabwe are expected to play Burkina Faso on June 6, followed by a fixture against Niger four days later.
