A 90 year-old grandmother has taken her grandson to court accusing him of drug abuse, insults, theft and damage to property.

Mrs Lessy Kangande made the allegation at Harare Civil Court on Wednesday.

The elderly woman told the magistrate that her grandson Emmanuel Kangande (35) damaged and stole her property.

“He is a drunkard, he stole groceries and even a fridge and sold it to his friends at a beerhall. He is a graduate, but he is failing to keep his job because of alcohol. He always shouts at me when he gets drunk.

“I always take care of him and he does not want to get married and move out of my house.”

In response, Kangande did not deny the allegations, but apologised to his grandmother for his actions.

“What she said is the truth. I will stop drinking beer, damaging her property and stealing and l will come home early,” he said.

Presiding Magistrate Ms Meenal Narotam ordered Kangande not to insult his grandmother, damage her property or steal from her.
