A 65-YEAR-OLD grandmother from Kuwadzana 4 has been granted a protection order against her two sons, who she says have repeatedly beaten and threatened her over a missing will allegedly written by her late husband.

Mrs Gladys Chita approached the Harare Civil Court seeking relief from the abuse she says she has endured at the hands of her sons, Enock (42) and Joshua (38).

“My husband died and left the house to me, but now my sons are accusing me of stealing his will so I can take over the property,” she told the court.

She said the violent confrontations have left her bruised and emotionally scarred, with no family members stepping in to help.

According to Mrs Chita, the two sons are trying to evict her from the family home and have even threatened to kill her if she does not produce the will.

“They are now harassing my relatives too, claiming they influenced me to hide the will,” she added.

Mrs Chita further accused her sons of vandalising her property, insisting that they claim full ownership of everything left behind by their father, whom they said was a wealthy man.

She also told presiding magistrate Ms Johanna Mukwesha that she feared for her life.

In their defence, the Chita brothers denied abusing their mother, saying they simply want what they believe is rightfully theirs.

The court, however, ruled in favour of the elderly woman.

Ms Mukwesha granted the protection order and directed the Chita brothers not to physically abuse or threaten their mother.

She also advised them to seek proper legal channels for resolving the property dispute.
