Zimbabwe won the Best Pavilion gold award and the Best Managed Exhibition Stand silver medal at the 10th Africa Public Service Day Commemorations that were held in Ethiopia on Monday night.
Zimbabwe’s exhibition stood out for its effective design and presentation, which demonstrated the country’s ongoing public sector reforms and commitment to inclusive development.
The awards were presented to Zimbabwe’s head of delegation, Mr Clifford Matorera, who is the Chief Director in the Ministry of Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare, on Monday night.
Accepting the awards, Mr Matorera said Zimbabwe’s public service is undergoing transformation driven by constitutional alignment, decentralisation and inclusive governance.
“We have devolved central Government functions and established sector-specific commissions such as the Health Service Commission, Judicial Service Commission, Gender Commission and Land Commission,” he said.
“These reforms ensure services are accessible and aligned with constitutional rights.”
Mr Matorera said the establishment of the Tripartite Negotiating Forum and the National Joint Negotiating Council has improved dialogue between Government, civil servants and the business community.
Zimbabwe’s Ambassador to Ethiopia, Sophia Nyamudeza, toured the exhibition stand and commended the delegation for effectively showcasing Zimbabwe’s public service milestones.
The Africa Public Service Day commemorations included an official opening ceremony, high-level panel discussions and an exhibition attended by various African countries.
The awards recognised countries demonstrating innovation, efficiency and dedication to public service improvement.
Zimbabwe is among the leading examples of public administration excellence on the continent.
