A 68-YEAR-OLD woman from Lamour Estate, Old Mutare is appealing for assistance in cash or kind for her 11-year-old granddaughter, Chipo Viage, who suffers from Hydrocephalus to undergo treatment. Mrs Fanitah Viage (68) is a widow and she is also taking care of her 45-year-old crippled son, Kufahakurambwi. Hydrocephalus is a brain condition that happens when the clear watery fluid that surrounds and clears the brain and spinal cord (cerebrospinal fluid) cannot drain from the brain. It then pools, causing a build-up of fluid in the skull.
“I cannot afford to take Chipo to hospital for treatment. I need a wheelchair for her because she is now grown up and I am no longer strong enough to carry her around. I also need diapers to dispose her waste. I will accept any form of assistance from soap, food or even clothes for either of them. I cannot work because I have to look after my child and granddaughter.
“Chipo’s parents died when she was young and Kufa’s wife left him when he was crippled and I have to single handedly take care of them,” said Mrs Viage.
