A TEENAGE girl fatally elbowed a 73-year-old grandmother who was trying to stop her from fighting with her grandson over $5, a court heard yesterday.

Sithabile Moyo, 18, of Mambo suburb in Gweru appeared before magistrate Tavengwa Chibanda charged with murder.

Chibanda did not ask Moyo to plead and remanded her in custody to August 4. Prosecuting, Daniel Tafuma told the court that on July 17 this year along Mandaza Road in Mambo suburb, Moyo allegedly struck Esnath Mutizwa on the chest with her right elbow.

He said Moyo was fighting with Munyaradzi Mutizwa, 17, over $5 when Mutizwa tried to stop the fight by pulling Moyo.

“Sithabile elbowed the old woman on her chest. The now deceased fell down and struck her head on dry firewood logs and she died on the spot due to head haemorrhage,” said Tafuma.
