IN our everyday life, naming a child after either one of your parents is usually a sign of honouring them, but when it comes to the stage that the name torments the child, it becomes a curse to the child.
Such has been the case with a Dangamvura family that named a daughter after her paternal grandmother.
For four years now, the teenager has been going through ‘hell’ as she now endures endless pain.
The road has been a thorny one for Edna Nyamuramba (19) who has been struggling for dear life.
She has endured bouts of mental illness and physical paralysis, a problem which most consulted prophets point an accusing finger on the girl’s namesake, her late paternal grandmother.
In an unsolicited interview, Edna’s father, Ngonidzashe Nyamuramba, narrated his daughter’s ordeal stating that he was left with no option but to appeal to anyone who can help his daughter.
Nyamuramba blamed his uncle for all the mishaps haunting his daughter.
He claimed that his daughter was the target of his uncle’s shenanigans because she was named after her paternal grandmother.
He said his uncle allegedly killed his mother, and is now using Edna to try and appease her spirit because she carries the name of the deceased.
“My mother’s spirit is tormenting my uncle, but he is forcing her spirit to wreak havoc in my family,” said Nyamuramba tearfully.
“It all started in May 2011 when Edna suddenly became mentally challenged. She was doing Form 3 at Nyamauru High School.
“We consulted a prophet and my uncle was accused as the source of Edna’s mental illness. He was accused of murdering my mother. The prophet said my uncle had used my daughter as the target for the avenging spirit because she carries my mother’s name.
“She got help and she managed to sit her end-of-year examinations. This was, however, short-lived as the problem surfaced again when she had started writing her final Ordinary Level examinations in 2013. Her mother had to sit with her in the examination room for her to calm down.”
He said Edna miraculously got her senses back a day after the examinations.
Trouble struck again when she went critically ill on December 22, losing her senses again.
“Another pastor in Mufakose in Harare told me that my child’s recovery was in my hands and I had to ask for forgiveness from my uncle. He said he wanted $20 and I paid him,” said Nyamuramba.
The uncle is said to have taken some water and spat it on Edna’s face.
“Edna was healed and had been okay since then, but now the problem has started again, Edna just collapsed after my uncle’s son passed by my house last Friday.
“As I speak, she is in a critical condition and I don’t know what to do. She is not speaking. Her mother is now responsible for carrying her to the toilet whenever it necessary.
“I am appealing to the nation to help me and my daughter whichever way they can, even if it means Government intervening and availing prophets who can help.”
