GRASSROOT football in Tsholotsho has been given a new lease of life following the resuscitation of Soccer for Life Academy by its founder member Zenzo Ndlovu.
The Academy has re-launched its programmes at Mavela High School in Tsholotsho as part of efforts to educate the rural child about the word of God using soccer to reach out to them while promoting positive deeds.
According to Ndlovu, this programme which has been ongoing in USA where it has a substantial number of children under its umbrella was put on hold in Zimbabwe due to a number of challenges.
It has been resuscitated in most parts of Bulawayo as well as in Tsholotsho focusing on capacity building of players as well as the coaches.
“Our aim is to bring children in the remote areas in the country closer to God through sport so that we can influence their behaviour to do well.
“We have carried out a number of training camps using sport so that we can impart football skills to them as well as spread the word of the Almighty Jesus Christ.
“We believe that the world must be taken to all corners of the country hence our activities have taken us to many corners of the country,” said Ndlovu.
Through the initiative, Ndlovu donated substantial equipment to a number of grassroot football structures around Bulawayo as well giving them advice.
Recently he was invited to give a motivational speech to Zifa Southern Region Division One side Talen Vision players who have dreams of playing for bigger teams in life.
The message to them was simple, “If you remain disciplined the sky is the limit as you pursue your dreams of playing football at the highest level.”
Ndlovu went to Sobukhazi High School and he is a former Highlanders juniors having played under the guidance of Ali “Baba” Dube.
However, due to the presence of a number of talented players at Bosso during that time, through the assistance of Kelly Jacobson he moved to USA.
