PLUMTREE’S Megatroity Cemetery, also known as MaDubes Cemetery, is grappling with waterlogged grave pits, leading to soil erosion and instability. The flooding of graves in Plumtree has become a significant concern for the community, making it increasingly difficult for families to bury their loved ones with dignity.
As a temporary solution, some families have resorted to building brick walls inside the graves to prevent further soil erosion and water accumulation. Heavy downpours have affected the region, exacerbating the national flooding crisis.
Neighbouring Bulilima District endured a similar predicament earlier this year, experiencing a series of destructive storms, dam breaches, and floods that caused water levels to rise to knee height.
