Manicaland provincial spokesperson Assistant Inspector Luxson Chananda confirmed that they picked up 11 people for questioning but said they were released on the same day after interrogation.

“Police are not contemplating any charges against them because after interrogation it turned out that the spreading of fire to other fields was not intentional,” he said.

Asst Insp Chananda said the blocks of sugarcane fields were closer to each other and chances were high that wind could have driven the fire to other fields.
