GreenCard introduces wellness programme

GreenCard chief executive Mr Simon Tapfumaneyi said the programme is aimed at their members.
“Our wellness programme is complementary to conventional medicine where treatment is through drugs and/or surgery thereby providing a comprehensive package for our membership. Information will be disseminated to our members through various channels,” he said.

By introducing its wellness programme, the company is diverging from traditional medical aid society fare, which tends to put emphasis on premium contributions and claims. Research has shown that 70 to 90 percent of chronic illness and obesity is a direct result of lifestyle, as such wellness programmes are typically designed to regulate pro-health behaviour and promote healthy living.

“We will provide healthy lifestyle information to our membership to ensure that they make informed decisions and exhibit behaviour consistent with positive health,” said Mr Tapfumaneyi.

GreenCard Medical Aid Society is a non-profit-making corporate body established to finance the medical, dental and allied requirements of its corporate and individual members among other issues. The scheme was registered with the Ministry of Health and Child Welfare under the Medical Services (Medical Aid Societies) Regulations, 2000 in March last year.
