BLACK Horrors legend Grey Ncube has been buried at Plumtree’s MaDubes Cemetery.
Ncube died in Plumtree on Tuesday at the age of 73.
He had fought cancer since February 2023.
Ncube played for Black Horrors, considered the most successful club to emerge from Plumtree.
They played in the Zifa South Zone Soccer League in the 1970s.
He is remembered for a devastating combination with Onias Musana and Lemmy Mnenekwa.
He was an influential attacking midfielder, strong with balance, pace and intelligent on and off the ball.
He was part of the team that defied the odds and reached the semi finals of the Chibuku Trophy in 1979.
A strong performance saw the unheralded Plumtree side dumped out of the tournament in the semi finals.
They won the hearts of many after bowing out 2-0 to one of the most exciting football projects of the time Caps United.
It was no ordinary outfit but one with the likes Stix M’tizwa, Joel Shambo, Shaky Tauro, Isaac Mafaro and Stanley Ndunduma.
Ncube shunned big clubs and kept his job in Plumtree.
An ardent Tottenham supporter, Ncube was described by many speakers as a great footballer and a man of great humility.
Chief Kiwa said: “He was a good man who was vert humble and lived well with community.”
Joseph Nkomazana of the coaches association, said he was inspired by Ncube and his generation of Plumtree football heroes.
Hundreds of mourners attended the funeral that lasted six hours.
