IN an effort to address rampant drug abuse among the youths in the country, Economic Empowerment Group (EEG) continues to take a multi-disciplinary and multi-sectoral approach in order to arrest the situation by taking the anti drug campaign to all the country’s 10 provinces.
The campaign kicked-off in Bulawayo and subsequently spread across the country and widened to ‘No To Drugs Zimbabwe’ with a focus to curb drug and substance abuse.
Over the weekend ,ECONOMIC Empowerment Group (EEG) took the fight against drug abuse with the recent anti-drug abuse campaign in Chinhoyi .
The overly subscribed event which was held at Chinhoyi Caves, also saw the group’s executive members calling youths to rally behind the ruling party Zanu PF and its leader, Cde Emmerson Mnangagwa in the coming 2023 harmonised election.
President of the group, Mike Chimombe challenged youths against abusing drugs but focus on putting their energy in income generating projects.
“We are moving around the country pushing the anti-drug abuse agenda which has become rampant among youths. It is imperative that youths embrace income generating projects as we support President Mnangagwa’s Vision 2030 and National Development Strategy 1 (NDS1).
“As we are a pro Zanu PF group, we take it upon us to also campaign for the ruling party and mobilise voters ahead of the 2023 elections,” he said.
Cde Chimombe said the ruling party had opened various economic empowerment avenues that needed to be explored.
EEG’s Vice President, Seke constituency’s legislator, Munyaradzi Kashambe said the province was endowed with various economic opportunities including mining and farming that youths were supposed to embrace.
The festival was spiced up with musical performances from hip-hop and Zimdancehall musicians with the fast-rising artiste, Holy Ten lighting the day.
Recently, Government said it would deal with the scourge of substance abuse among others, operationalisation of the Zimbabwe National Drug Master Plan (ZNDMP 2020 to 2025) and Treatment and Rehabilitation Guidelines of Alcohol and Substance Use Disorder of Zimbabwe (TRGASUD ZIM).
Identifying and upgrading existing mental health institutions that can admit affected children, youths and adults including a dedicated child psychiatric hospital in each province until they have recovered.
