Guard in close shave

A SECURITY guard was reportedly locked inside the premises of one of the companies that went up in flames at an industrial complex by its owners in Harare last week. Property worth millions of dollars was gutted by fire at an industrial complex housing more than five companies between Lytton and Paisley Roads in Workington industrial area.

Police sources on Friday said when they went to attend the scene, they discovered that the security guard had to break some window panes to get out of one of the premises believed to be owned by Indian nationals.

Investigations revealed that the owners of the company would lock the security guard inside the premises as a security measure.
“We would like to believe that this was happening everyday,” a police source said. “The owners would unlock the doors the following morning when they reported for duty.”

The security guard was taken to Harare Central Hospital for treatment after he was affected by the smoke.
The cause of the fire was still unknown, but witnesses said it emanated from the premises of KDV, a company that manufactures beds and mattresses.

The premises also house Polywaste and Imperial Plastics.
