A SECURITY security guard has appeared in court for allegedly conniving with accomplices to gain access to a property where they robbed a woman of US$88 846.
Charles Mukwenha (34) appeared before Harare Magistrate Mr Tapiwa Kuhudzai, facing a robbery charge.
The court remanded him in custody pending his full bail application. Prosecutor Ms Dzidzai Josiah alleged that on September 25, 2026, at around 5:30 pm, Mukwenha was on duty manning the main gate at the premises.
His duties included screening visitors before allowing them access to the property. The court heard that Mukwenha allegedly connived with his accomplices, who arrived at the premises dressed in blue work suits and surgical face masks, with one of them carrying a pick.
Mukwenha allegedly opened the gate and allowed them into the premises without conducting the required security checks.
His accomplices then proceeded to the office, leaving Mukwenha alone at the main gate.
It is alleged that upon entering the office, the suspects confronted the complainant and demanded cash, asking where the company’s recently delivered cash was kept.
One of the suspects allegedly picked up a plastic bag containing US$88 846 that was lying on the floor.
The suspects allegedly ordered the complainant to remain seated while two of them left the office and another remained behind to guard her.
The court further heard that the suspects proceeded to an upstairs office, where they allegedly dismantled a dummy CCTV DVR before leaving the premises.
The State alleged that the suspects then fled from the property with the stolen cash.
Detectives who attended the scene on the same day reportedly viewed CCTV footage which allegedly showed Mukwenha allowing his accomplices into the premises.
The footage allegedly also showed Mukwenha failing to alert the occupants after the suspects entered, instead walking towards other people at the premises after being left alone at the gate.
Investigations are continuing.
