SEASONED gospel musician Minister Ellard Cherayi was honoured by his wife Sharon at a private birthday party held at Hyatt Regency which drew guests from Australia, Ghana and the United Kingdom.
Minister Ellard turned 37.
Pastor Rogers and his delegation came from Australia and their group included musician Wellington Kwenda, Ghanaian music promoter Kay Oduro, of the popular label SoulBrother, as well as the Makombes’ (John and Eleana) from the UK, were part of the show.
Sources say the Cherayis have a song with Pastor Rogers, which is set to be released soon.
Minister Ellard was handed a gift of a bass guitar by local producer-cum-musician Tatenda Gurupira.
“Oh man, wow, thanks Gurupira,” he said.
“I am shocked and speechless at the same time, thank you, friends and family.
“I love you, Sharon, you do not know what you have done to me. I never expected that you would do such a wonderful thing. My brother and wife, my manager, producers, I am elated.”
The Hakuna Zita hitmaker went on to chronicle his upbringing. “I remember Meikles, now Hyatt Regency, vividly, Kwenda brought me here for my honeymoon.
“I used to do birthdays at Nandos restaurant with Manchester United-themed cakes, the four of us. It was amazing, never in my life did I think I would sit down with the people I cherish to celebrate my birthday,” he said.
The Makombes gifted him a premium suite, bed and breakfast one one-night stay at Hyatt Regency.
Sharon also gave an emotional speech thanking her husband for the three kids and how he shaped her. “You know about my upbringing and where we came from. I am here today because of you. Thank you for being a great husband.
“My background wasn’t good but you made me a star. Thank you to everyone who showed up and it is hard and difficult to surprise him but I am happy that I made it,” she said.
