ONE of the most highly qualified female athletics coaches in Zimbabwe, Guide Maphosa, has died.
She was 46.
Maphosa died at Masvingo Provincial Hospital yesterday.
Her sister Nyaradzo said Maphosa was admitted at the hospital for about two weeks.
“She had been in hospital for one-and-a-half weeks and the cause of her death is renal failure,” said Nyaradzo.
Mourners are gathered in Eastvale, Mashava, while burial is expected in Mushagashe on Sunday.
Maphosa leaves behind four children — Ronald (22), Racheal (20) Natasha (15) and Victoria (12).
At the time of her death, Maphosa was one of the coaches for the Team Zimbabwe Zone Six Under-20 Games, working with athletes in Masvingo.
Leading athletics coach Silas Muringani described Maphosa’s death as a blow to the sport.
“She was one of the few highly qualified female coaches in Zimbabwe. NAAZ has been dealt a heavy blow because she was working as one of the coaches for the Zone Six team,” said Muringani.
