adminLONDON — Arsenal are reportedly in talks with Lyon over a move for Alexandre Lacazette. The Gunners had a £29m bid rejected by the Ligue 1 club last week, who released a statement insisting their star striker is not for sale. Sky Sports reporter Kaveh Solhekol broke the news and tweeted: “Arsenal working hard to sign Lyon forward Alexandre Lacazette. Two clubs still in talks to agree a fee.” Arsene Wenger has confirmed he is on the hunt for a new forward and the Arsenal board are ready to boost his transfer kitty to land top targets Lacazette and Valencia defender Shkodran Mustafi. Lyon manager Bruno Genesio has gone against the club’s public stance and admitted they could cash in on Lacazette. Genesio said: “There are some offers that you cannot refuse.”
If Arsenal agree a fee with Lyon then a move could quickly progress because French news outlet Le 10 Sport reported earlier this week that Lacazette has a financial agreement in place.
The France international made 34 top flight appearances last term, scoring an impressive 21 goals in the process. Arsenal have also made enquiries for Valencia defender Mustafi and West Brom’s Jonny Evans but have yet to make a bid.
Chelsea have also added former Everton defender Mustafi to their list of options as they look to improve their central defensive options.
The German international has a £41m buyout clause but Valencia may be open to offers around £25m.
Arsenal will hold talks with Valencia this weekend to try and push through the signing of Mustafi.
Gunners boss Arsene Wenger has made signing the 24-year-old German international a priority before the new Premier League season kicks off next weekend.
Wenger is currently short on senior centre backs with Per Mertesacker ruled out until next year with a knee injury while Laurent Koscielny is still on holiday after helping France to the final of Euro 2016. — The Daily Star-Mailonline.
