A PUMULA South family is still trembling after armed robbers hijacked them outside Tshebetshebe Primary School in a dramatic night-time raid.
In a press statement, Acting Bulawayo deputy police spokesperson Thandekile Ndlovu said the incident occurred on 27 August 2025 at around 7:15 PM. Errol Ndhlovu had parked his black Mazda Demio in front of a house. From the shadows, two armed men pounced, one pointing a pistol at him while the other yanked him by the shirt and dragged him out of the vehicle.

The thugs fired three shots into the air as Ndhlovu’s wife, Siphiwe Moyo, and his sister scrambled out of the car. The gunmen jumped in and sped off.
“They came out of nowhere. We begged them not to shoot my husband. It was like the movies, they just fired into the air and vanished with our car in less than three minutes,” Moyo told B-Metro, her voice still trembling.
The robbers made off with the Demio, a cellphone, and a wallet — loot valued at US$7 030. To their blunder, they drove off without realising the car keys were still with the victims, but the vehicle was already running.
No arrests have been made, and nothing has been recovered.
The community says crime is spiralling out of control, with residents now living in fear. “We are no longer safe even in broad daylight,” said a neighbour, urging police to intensify patrols near schools and busy intersections.
For Moyo, the scars are more than financial. “Now I’m always looking over my shoulder. I don’t feel safe anymore,” she confessed.
Anyone with information on the robbers’ whereabouts is urged to assist police.
