Gunshots fired as robbers raid Entumbane school

Zimpapers Reporter

TWO gunshots were heard as police responded to an armed robbery at Mthombowesizwe Primary School in Bulawayo’s Entumbane suburb early this morning.

The gunshots were heard at around 4.15am after five men allegedly raided the school and targeted the safe in the administration block.

The suspects, who were reportedly dressed in black and wearing masks, allegedly rounded up and tied up a Bulawayo City Council security guard before forcing their way into the administration block.

They are said to have been armed with grinders, which they used during the break-in.

It could not immediately be established how much money was in the safe or how much the suspects got away with.

The robbers are suspected to have escaped by jumping over the school’s perimeter wall.

Despite a swift police response, no arrests had been made by the time of writing, with investigating teams already at the school.

The security guard reportedly sustained minor injuries and was assisting police with investigations.

The robbery comes amid a recent spate of reported robberies targeting shops in Entumbane.

Soon after the gunshots were heard, frightened residents who were already awake began discussing the incident in neighbourhood WhatsApp groups.
