A 38-year-old tobacco agent and gold dealer from Guruve lost close to US$4 000 and his vehicle to armed robbers at his homestead.
Gibson Kamutikaoma from Muroiwa Village drove to his homestead at around 7pm in a Toyota Hiace and parked his vehicle between his kitchen and bedroom.
Provincial police spokesperson Sergeant Major Samuel Chikasha said as Kamutikaoma was disembarking from the vehicle, one of the armed robbers who was wearing a balaclava approached him armed with a knife.
He pointed the knife at him, demanding cash, and before Kamutikaoma could react, five more robbers emerged from the back of the house.
One of the robbers was carrying a pistol, and all of them were wearing balaclavas.
They sprayed Kamutikaoma with pepper spray and forced him into his vehicle before tying his hands.
The gang searched the car and took US$2 730, a bank card, and car keys.
They force marched Kamutikaoma into the kitchen where his family was seated.
The gang demanded more cash and ransacked the house. They stole US$1 225 and several cell phones.
They then drove away in Kamutikaoma’s vehicle.
Sergeant Major Chikasha appealed to people to avoid keeping large sums of money in their homes.
