Speaking from Sweden yesterday, the Black Mambas midfielder Amidu said they are still trying to find their feet ahead of the start of the “real deal”.
Amidu said they were hoping to play their first games at the weekend for the team that already has Nigerian international Abiola Dauda as the only African player on their books.
“We are at Kalmar FC, and it’s a top Swedish First Division club. So far we are just getting started and everything looks fine.
“The environment is okay for us,” said Amidu.
Amidu, a member of the national Under-23 said they would only be having trials with the club, which is lying fifth on the 16-team table.
Kalmar have 29 points from 18 games as the league has gone past the halfway after kicking off in April.
The club is one of the topsides and has been based in the city of Smaland, in the south east of Sweden since its formation in on February 10, 1910.
Kalmar have won three national cup titles and the league title -the Allsvenskan -once in 2008.
Before the start of that season, several Swedish football experts believed that Kalmar FF would be one of the teams fighting for the championship title.
The club started the season stable but their performance became stronger and saw the club win many big victories, only other team able to keep up was IF Elfsborg.
The club had to wait until the last match of the season against Halmstads BK in Halmstad before they could become champions.
Before the final match Elfsborg 3 points behind with with a goal difference of 9 goals. The match against Halmstads BK ended 2-2 placing the club 1 point ahead of Elfsborg.
Kalmar also had the chance to reach the group stage of the UEFA Cup. If Gutu and Amidu impress, they join Kingstone Rinemhota and Ian Gorowa on the list of Zimbabweans who have previously played in the Swedish league.
