GOVERNMENT is on a drive to open new market opportunities for the country through bi-lateral and multilateral agreements.
Industry and Commerce Minister, Sekai Nzenza, said their key mandate is to move the economy up the value chain, through sector specific strategies.
“The dialogue ensuing is not only key to the export agenda, but also to the industrialisation agenda.
“In so doing, as we implement the National Development Strategy 1 (NDS1) and strive to attain the aspirations of Vision 2030, the Government has put in place various measures to stabilise the economy and create a conducive business environment.
“This has resulted in the improvement of capacity utilisation of the manufacturing sector from 47% in 2020 to 66% in 2021,” she said.
She said in line with the ease of doing business, major infrastructure was being developed across the country, creating many new jobs, and expanding business for local contractors and suppliers.
“I would like to commend the synergies which exist between my Ministry, ZimTrade and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade in identifying markets and opportunities for Zimbabwean produce.
“We cannot build a sustainable manufacturing sector or a secure export network without value addition.
“Not only does this allow us to collectively safeguard the progress, which has been registered so far, but it positions the local manufacturers to participate competitively in the global value chains,” she said.
