Nightlife in the mining town of Gwanda is poised for growth with live entertainment gripping the area following the resumption of shows nationwide.

A party mood is already engulfing the town with the festive season set to be frenzied.

From last Friday till Sunday, shows that promoted local artistes were lined up across two popular joints, the Aquaworld Leisure Centre at Gwanda Hotel and Phoenix Pub and Grill, commonly referred to as Shisanyama.

On Friday, Aquaworld Leisure Centre played host to fast-rising Gwanda artistes Zhezhingtonz, Kay_Kid Umfanomsotho and Zagoe Radge. The youthful combination on its own was a vibe with revellers paying homage to the entertainers who for a while, have been uplifting the Matabeleland South province capital.

On Saturday, from Bulawayo was legendary DJ Mark Vusani who shared the decks with fellow revered entertainer Boss Kay aka Kudamaster. They took revellers down memory lane by playing yesteryear hits and fused their set with the latest genre of Amapiano which many have become accustomed to.

As for the Shisanyama joint, the setup has raised the town’s bar high as it has an international standard from the stage, open space for revellers to dance, executive area, Tshisanyama and bar area.

The Covid-19-induced lockdown and closure of bars certainly gave the proprietor, Mgcini Nkolomi ample time to renovate and spruce up the area so as to raise the levels of quality entertainment in Gwanda.

On Friday at Shisanyama, the night started off with a show dubbed The Gwanda Invasion which was headlined by personality Babongile Sikhonjwa. On Saturday, Roil Bulawayo Arts Awards (BAA) Outstanding DJ Mzoe paraded his gong with a great set supported by DJ Wyclif and DJ T Money.

As the joint is family friendly, Sundays have been set aside for family where kids get an opportunity to have a fun fare. Performances on the day came from Gwanda local artistes that included Khoi Khoi, Zagoe Radge, Ronney, Gibbonz and Zhezhingtonz.

Commenting on upcoming shows, Aquaworld Leisure Centre bar manager Nomalanga Moyo said: they have Qoki koJahunda’s compilation launch this weekend where Madlela Skhobokhobo and Skhosana of the Dlala Ntethe fame will be guest artistes.

“On the 27th, we’ll have Djembe Monks featuring locals, Zhezhingtons, Zagoe Radge and Kay_Kid Umfanomsotho.”
