THE Gwanda Municipality Police Department has ramped up night patrols in response to a surge in illegal vending and commuter taxi operations after dark, as traders attempt to evade daytime enforcement.

In a public notice, Town Clerk Ms. Priscillah Nkala said the move aims to restore order, ensure compliance with bylaws, and protect the town from the negative effects of unregulated night-time trading, including waste accumulation and infrastructure damage.

“With immediate effect, the municipality will enforce bylaws after hours and at night to maintain order and collect due fees,” she said.

Fees & Penalties
– Vending fee: US$1
– Penalty for unauthorised food (meat, chips, etc.): US$3
– Tuck-shops: US$3
– Local commuter taxis: US$1 per trip
– Out-of-town taxis:
– One passenger fare per trip

Nkala warned that illegal traders contribute to environmental degradation and public disorder, stressing that the council remains committed to upholding regulations.
