GWANDA Municipality has received waste bins from a local company as part of efforts to ensure cleanliness in the town.

Tshukela Investments handed over 10 bins to the municipality in support of improving waste management, reducing litter and promoting public health in the town.

The bins will help to address Gwanda’s persistent litter problem being worsened by scarcity of waste disposal bins.

In a speech during a ceremony to hand over the bins Gwanda Town Clerk, Ms Priscillah Nkala, highlighted that the bins are the pushers of a cleaner and sustainable future.

“We are grateful for your support in donating swinging solid waste management bins as we are taking significant strides towards creating a cleaner, greener, and more sustainable future. These bins are not just containers; they represent our collective effort to manage waste responsibly and efficiently.

“We are now better equipped to educate our residents on proper waste disposal and recycling practices. Together, we are fostering a culture of environmental stewardship that will benefit not only our current residents but also future generations,” she said.

Ms Nkala urged the public to utilise the bins and not vandalise them.

Also speaking during the ceremony Gwanda Municipality deputy mayor, Mrs Siphathisiwe Mpofu said significant development in the town can be achieved through input from various stakeholders.

“For us to realise significant development, we need to initiate our own development in line with President Mnangagwa’s call “ilizwe lakhiwa ngabanikazi balo”. We need the input of various stakeholders, which include the business community, residents, development partners and many others so that we realise much-needed development. We appreciate this intervention from Tshukela Investments,” she said.
