KELVIN Gwao’s well-taken header in the 16th minute has given ZPC Kariba a slim 1-0 lead over Highlanders at Barbourfields Stadium.
Gwao punished some slack marking in the Bosso defense, rising unchallenged to nod home a precise free-kick from Ciphas Musikawanhu. The early goal silenced the home crowd and shifted momentum to the visitors.
Highlanders had a chance to hit back in the 24th minute when Prince Ndlovu found space inside the box, but his tame shot was comfortably saved by ZPC keeper Future Sibanda.
Coach Pieter De Jongh reacted with a double substitution, bringing on Darlington Mukuli and Mason Mushore to inject urgency. The move sparked more energy, but Bosso still struggled to find the final touch.
Ndlovu missed another glorious opportunity moments later, dragging his effort wide after some nifty footwork created space.
Their best chance came in the 43rd minute when a rebound fell to substitute Benjamin Adeogun, but he sliced his shot off target to the frustration of the home supporters.
ZPC Kariba almost doubled their lead in stoppage time through Moses Demera, who fired over from close range, letting Bosso off the hook as the halftime whistle blew.
