EVERY Sunday, the corner of George Silundika Street and 9th Avenue in Bulawayo comes alive with the smell of home-cooked meals — and a whole lot of love.
Senelisiwe Chiphomo, founder of the Usizo Foundation, has made it her mission to feed the city’s most vulnerable. From street kids to the homeless, at least 150 hungry mouths are served each week.
“We started this in 2019, and we haven’t stopped since,” she told B-Metro. “The Covid-19 pandemic was the hardest time. More people were desperate for food, and we couldn’t turn anyone away.”
She and her family prepare the meals at home before loading them into their car. Once they arrive at their usual spot, her children join in, dishing out hot plates of food to those in need.
For Chiphomo, it’s more than just feeding people — it’s restoring hope.
“This is about showing love and reminding them that they matter,” she said with a smile.
