FORMER Dynamos forward, Evans Gwekwerere, powered Jameson Boys to secure the championship as he finished as the Harare Super League Golden Boot winner.
The Harare Super League held their first phase awards ceremony at Alex Sports Club on Saturday.
They crowned Jameson Boys as league winners and honoured individuals who illuminated the campaign.
Gwekwerere also took home the Most Outstanding Player of the Season Award.
Tendai Mwarura of Diaspora FC won the HSL Player of The Season after finishing just a goal behind Gwekwerere, who scored 12 times in 13 fixtures.
Harare Super League chairman, Kelvin Kanyama, hailed Jameson Boys for their success story.
“One can only be proud of Jameson Boys because they deserve what they have achieved. This is what you get when your team is organised and consistent.
“They had big players like Gwekwerere and Edward Sadomba, who gave them the experience in crucial games.
“We have a number of youngsters who are using the Harare Super League as platform to get exposure.
“The league is also attracting active Castle Lager Premiership players who might be club hunting. They are coming in good numbers to get a run and it shows the competitiveness of the league,”said Kanyama.
He also revealed how they came up with the winners for individual accolades.
“We had a representative from each team casting their vote for the player they believe was outstanding.
“Mwarura and Gwekwerere received four votes apiece. We had to split the award so that we can have the outstanding player and player of the season but in our view these two separate awards carries the same weight.
“The league has shown great potential, it has been attractive to many people to the extent that players are not ashamed to come with their families.
“We just need the help of the corporate world to support our vision so that we can improve a lot of things that will benefit the players,” he said.
The second phase of the season will get underway early next month.
