JUSTIN ROSE fell agonisingly short at The Open as Xander Schauffele claimed his second major.

Schauffele sealed his victory with four birdies on the back nine of the Prestwick Golf Club in Scotland.

Rose started the day tied with Schauffele, but his back nine was not good enough, as he bogeyed hole 12.

The Brit was unable to recover, losing ground on the American and missing his chance to win The Open.

Schauffele almost finished with a flourish and narrowly missed a birdie chance before putting par to end on nine under.

Rose was able to hit a bride himself to finish his efforts on seven under.

Englishmen Matthew Jordan and Daniel Brown also finished in the top ten as they both scored par overall. – TheSun
