GWERU City Mayor Councillor Josiah Makombe wants Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (Zacc) and the Special Anti-Corruption Unit to speed up their investigations into the alleged corruption and land scandals at the local authority.
Clr Makombe said all those implicated in corruption and land scandals should be arrested immediately. He called on the two anti-corruption units to speed up their investigations into the land scandals and corruption allegations and ensure that the perpetrators are brought to book as soon as possible.
“We are happy that the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission is keeping an eye on the unscrupulous acts. We approached Zacc over the issue of land and they are now working on the matter. I hope the arrests of the perpetrators will be made soon enough. People will find themselves at Whawha Prison very soon. We are happy that the media has done a splendid job in exposing corruption at Gweru City Council,” he said.
Clr Makombe said the local authority has also been fighting corruption even in the prepaid parking system. He said the local authority was realising about $300 000 from its parking system but has a potential of generating $4 million a month. Meanwhile, heads are set to roll within the Bulawayo City Council (BCC) after the Government and Zacc last week sent a probe teams to the city to investigate a number of corruption cases levelled against senior officials in connection with land allocation.
