A GWERU family lost cash, a vehicle and other valuables including cell phones and laptops to armed robbers who also raped two members of the family before speeding off using their victims’ vehicle.
Police confirmed that they have since launched a manhunt for the three-armed robbers who took with them US$900 cash, various electrical hardware meant for resale before speeding off in the family’s car.

Midlands police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko said the three-armed robbers also took turns to rape the family’s two members who were sleeping in another room.
“On 2 February around 3am, three unknown accused persons forcibly opened the family’s entrance using iron bars. Upon entry into the house the accused, who were armed with an axe and a hoe, tied the man and his wife using a twine and covered them with blankets while demanding cash,” said Insp Mahoko.
The robbers went on to ransack the house searching for cash and some portable valuable property. They then went into another bedroom where the two ladies were sleeping and took turns to rape them.

“The suspects then got away with seven cell phones, two laptops, US$900 cash, various hardware tools before driving off using the family’s vehicle. Total value of property stolen is US$14 770,” said Insp Mahoko.
Police are appealing for anyone with information that may lead to the arrest of the armed robbers to approach any nearest police station.
“We also continue to urge members of the public to enhance their security measures especially when they keep high value property. We further remind the public not to keep large sums of money in their homes,” he said.
