Gweru man nabbed for drug possession

Midlands Bureau

POLICE in Gweru have arrested a 37-year-old man from Mtapa suburb after he was found in possession of large quantities of marijuana.

The arrest of Danisa Ncube, police said, followed a tip-off that he was going to receive the dagga from a bus that was offloading at Kudzanayi long-distance bus terminus.

Midlands Provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko, confirmed Ncube’s arrest.

“Zimbabwe Republic Police confirms the arrest of a 37-year-old man for unlawful possession or use of dangerous drugs (dagga) which occurred on Tuesday around 11 am at Kudzanayi long distance bus terminus, Gweru,” he said.

Insp Mahoko said a team of detectives from CID Drugs and Narcotics, Midlands Province, acting on information, intercepted Ncube who was in the process of receiving a consignment of prepared dagga.

“They managed to arrest Danisa Ncube of Section 3, Mtapa in Gweru. Searches carried out during the arrest led to the recovery of a total of 16 shrink-wrapped cobs of prepared dagga which were packaged in two separate parcels,” he said.

Insp Mahoko said Ncube was taken into police custody together with the exhibits as investigations continue.

“The general public is informed that dealing or possession of dangerous drugs without a licence is a serious crime,” he said.

“We call upon those with information that can help us identify and arrest people suspected of dealing in dangerous drugs to supply it to us. It is our duty together as a nation to safeguard our future from the effects of drugs.”
