Gweru police bans machetes and other weapons

Officer Commanding Gweru Rural District police, Chief Superintendent Enthia Muzvidziwa today issued a prohibition order banning members of the public from carrying dangerous weapons.

She said the ban follows a spate of crimes including murder and armed robbery among others.

“The reason for this prohibition order is to curb crimes of assault, robbery, murder and rape.

“We appeal to members of the public to comply with the order. Members of the community should report those seen in possession of any weapon,” reads part of the prohibition order.

The banned weapons include machetes, knobkerries, swords, knives, spears or dagga and catapults among others.

Chief Sup Muzvidziwa said the prohibition order will be effective from November 11 to February 10 next year.
