Gweru runs dry again

Gwenhoro Dam.
The situation has been dire in most high density surbubs especially Mkoba and Nehosho.
Gweru Mayor Councillor Tedious Chimombe yesterday confirmed the water crisis.

Clr Chimombe said the water challenges were a result of the routine maintenance and repair works being carried out at Gwenhoro Dam.

He said the city council was replacing aged pumps and pipes.
Clr Chimombe said old pipes were frequently bursting resulting in the council losing a lot of water through leakages.

“We have embarked on a programme of changing the old pipes and pumps at Gwenhoro Dam. Recently we bought two pumps and received another one from Germany to change the old ones,” he said.
