GWERU skipper John Mandava says the presence of the Thai bowling club, Coco, has brought a new dimension to the Zimbabwe October Fives tournament that gets underway today. The tourney is being hosted by the City Bowling Club and gets underway at 8:30am today with 15 teams taking part. “The fives tournament is an exciting and prestigious event on our calendar and we are happy to be here and interacting with other bowlers from all over the country,” said Mandava.
“We are happy they (Thailand’s Coco Bowling club) decided to join us and while we have respect for their bowling expertise, we are not intimidated by them.
“Their coming to participate has certainly added a competitive flair to the competition and every club will be out to prove that they are the better bowlers, so it’s going to be exciting.”
City Bowling Club, who are hosting the tourney, said they were happy with the huge turnout.
“I think it’s going to be a good tournament, we are just overwhelmed by the response from bowlers from around the country and abroad who pitched up in their numbers to participate,” said City Bowling Club manager, Joyce Kachale.
“The winning team will walk away with prize money, which I am not yet at liberty to disclose as we are still working out the finer details, but there is definitely going to be something.”
