UNICORNS men’s basketball team from Gweru will today and tomorrow (Saturday) play in the MBA League against four local teams. Mutare Basketball Association spokesperson, Taurai Dhliwayo, confirmed the developments in the 2015/16 MBA League in which invited teams from other provinces will be playing against local teams.

He said Unicorns would have their first match against Chiefs today (Friday) at 7pm at Mutare Boys’ High School, while their second match is against Dangamvura Knights at 2.30pm tomorrow (Saturday).

Other teams to play this week are AU men and ladies, Sophists, Giants, Chiefs and the star-studded Mercenaries’ men who have remained invincible and topping the league.

Mercenaries continued their dominance when they beat Chiefs 100-56 last weekend at Mutare Boys’ High School. Saints remained on second position after edging Dangamvura Sixers by 72 points against 45.

Chiefs are still on position three, while Chikanga Hustlaz and AU were on fourth and fifth positions, respectively. Dangamvura Sixers anchors the log standings. They lost their last weekend match by 30 points against Saints’ 72.

Wolves’ ladies, however, made it to the top of the MBA League females’ category after a 32-7 win against AU ladies. MBA spokesperson, Taurai Dhliwayo, said: “Wolves ladies’ performance last week was an outstanding one and it was so impressing.

“Their win was a sign of determination and hard work. Action has been exciting and full of drama over the past three weeks and we are experiencing an increase in the number of fans who are coming to watch our matches.

I am grateful with this development and I am urging people from different parts of the city to come and have fun.”
