A 32-YEAR-OLD woman from Gweru, Melody Mandega, has been arraigned before the Gweru Magistrates’ Court for allegedly assaulting a 53-year-old man, Josiah Chigumba, at Diamond Plate Nightclub in the early hours of 5 February 2025.

According to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), the incident occurred around 1 AM when Mandega, a patron at the nightclub, snatched Chigumba’s beer and struck him on the head with a beer bottle. The assault followed an argument over Mandega’s insistence on buying beer after the club had closed.

Mandega, who is unemployed and of no fixed abode, was remanded in custody until 6 March 2025. The case highlights the consequences of violence and the importance of resolving disputes peacefully.

The NPA has reiterated its commitment to prosecuting cases of violence and ensuring justice for victims.
