Gwisai trial deferred

their trial deferred to tomorrow after it emerged that no magistrate was ready to handle the case.
Gwisai, who is also International Socialist Organisation leader, Antoneta Choto (36), Tatenda Mombeyarara (29), Edson Chakuma (38), Hopewell Gumbo (32) and Welcome Zimuto (25) appeared before regional magistrate Mr Munamato Mutevedzi.
Mr Mutevedzi is now expected to preside over the case tomorrow.
They are being charged with conspiracy to commit public violence or alternatively inciting public violence and participating in a gathering with the intention to promote public violence, breach of peace or bigotry.
The magistrate who was supposed to hear the matter recused himself on professional grounds the last time Gwisai and accused came for trial.
Mr Edmore Nyazamba from the Attorney General’s Office is appearing for the State.
Charges against Gwisai and his accomplices arose on February 19 this year at Zimbabwe Labour Centre, at Number 43 Julius Nyerere Way in Harare when the law lecturer as a co-ordinator of the ISO allegedly acted in connivance to destabilise peace, security or order of the public in Zimbabwe.
It is alleged they agreed to mobilise the people of Zimbabwe to revolt against the Government and demand the resignation of President Mugabe, the Egyptian way.
Former Egyptian president Hosni Mubarak was forced to resign after a revolt in which Government buildings were burnt, vehicles stoned and several people injured and killed.
It is alleged that the six also acted together with the intention to endanger, promote or expose to hatred, contempt or ridicule the President and Government of Zimbabwe.
They allegedly delivered speeches encouraging participants to mobilise people to revolt against the President. They allegedly showed the people some videos of the Egyptian revolt and circulated some documents.
