ZIMBABWE Gymnastics (ZG) has named a 53-member team and seven officials for the Region 5 Gymnastics Championships to be held at Belvedere Technical Teachers College in Harare.
The championships run from December 9-11 and will also feature Botswana, Lesotho, Mozambique, Namibia and South Africa.
ZG vice-president Chris Muchatuta is the Zimbabwe team manager for the championships formerly known as the Zone 6 Championships.
“We are happy to be hosting the games, as this is an opportunity for some of the most talented young gymnasts in the region to pit their skills against each other on the big stage,” said Muchatuta.
“Traditionally the competition has been used to prepare up-and-coming youths that have shown talent, for the rigours of international competition.
I have no doubt that with a pool of young talented and enthusiastic gymnasts that we have, we will do well and do the nation proud.”
Among the disciplines will be artistic men, artistic women, rhythmic, trampoline and aerobics.
Zimbabwe has consistently performed strongly in the past, particularly in the women’s artistic discipline.
The games are used to promote and develop the sport in Southern African.
