Habitual burglar jailed 3yrs

A serial burglar who unleashed a reign of terror on Chitungwiza residents by breaking into their houses and stealing valuables worth $1 695 has been jailed for an effective two-and-a-half years.

Washington Mirisawu (41) of 13555 Unit N, Seke, Chitungwiza pleaded guilty to three counts of unlawful entry and theft when he appeared before magistrate Ms Jessy Kufa.

Ms Kufa slapped him with a three-year prison term, but conditionally set aside six months for five years. Proved facts were that between May 7 last year and October 10 this year, Mirisawu broke into three houses in the same town and stole cooking utensils and electrical gadgets.

In May last year, Mirisawu broke into Eunice Tavaziva’s house in Unit F after gaining entry into her house around 4am by opening the door using a blunt object.

Mirisawu stole a 26-inch Phillips Plasma Television worth $400 and disappeared.

On October 6 this year, he stormed Hazvinei Jera’s house in the same suburb and using the same method took away a Huawei tablet and Celkon tablet both worth $620.

Mirisawu ran out of luck when he went to Patrick Zongoro’s house where he stole kitchen utensils worth $75.

Zongoro reported the matter to the police and investigations were instituted, resulting in his arrest.

He revealed how he broke into the houses, leading to the recovery of the stolen property.
