WARRIORS defender Teenage Hadebe says he is targeting consistency during the new Major League Soccer season, which got underway at the weekend.
The 30-year-old centreback is looking to build on his performances for Cincinnati and establish himself as a key member of the squad.
“The preparations have been going well and I am happy with the work we have done as a team.
“Everyone is pushing hard because we understand what will be required of us during the season.
“My objective is to remain consistent, stay available for selection and contribute whenever the coaches give me an opportunity.
“Competition for places is healthy because it pushes every player.
The defender joined Cincinnati in August 2024 after a brief spell with Turkish Süper Lig side Konyaspor.
His contract was subsequently extended through the 2026 season.
Hadebe said settling into the team and gaining a better understanding of their playing system has placed him in a stronger position ahead of the campaign.
“I have settled well at Cincinnati and now have a better understanding of the team’s playing system.
“I want to build on last season and become an important part of the defensive unit.
“Major League Soccer is very competitive and every season presents a different challenge.
“We must prepare thoroughly and maintain high standards throughout the campaign.”
Hadebe previously spent three seasons with Houston Dynamo after joining the club as in 2021.
He was named Houston’s Defender of the Year and Newcomer of the Year during his debut season before helping the club win the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup in 2023.
“Experience has taught me that defending is not only about individual performance.
“Communication, organisation and working together as a unit are important if the team is to achieve its objectives,” he said.
Hadebe’s preparations will also be followed closely by the Warriors technical team.
“Representing Zimbabwe remains a great honour. Performing consistently at club level is important because it keeps me ready whenever I am called upon to serve the national team,” added Hadebe.
