Handball federation elections postponed

The executive held a meeting last month in Harare and resolved to conduct elections this Saturday.
However, all is not well, as they failed to submit their revised programme of actionto the Sports Commission.

The programme was supposed to be signed by the president, Agrippa Sora, and the chief executive, Amon Madzvamuse before its submission to the Commission.
The move is part of an agreement reached when the Sports Commission reinstated Sora as president and recommended for the registration of the federation’s constitution last year after there was a dispute between the then outgoing president and the new executive.

ZHF were expected to hold their polls to elect a new executive within three months after regularising the constitution but they failed to beat the deadline. ZHF secretary, Alphios Magiya, said the critical pass has not been signed and they can not hold the polls before their constitution is registered.

“The Sports Commission said we should bring a revised critical path and the president should sign it before we submit it.
“We have to reconvene to map the way forward because we already have a problem. This time we will have a meeting with the council, which is made up of provincial chairpersons,” said Magiya.

The ZHF secretary said the current situation within the handball mother body will affect their preparations for the All-Africa Games qualifiers competition scheduled to run from February 21 to 28 in South Africa.
Zimbabwe is expecting to send both the men and women’s teams for the event.
“All is not well and will affect our preparations for the qualifiers. The team was supposed to get into camp last weekend but they could not do so because the resources were not available,” said Magiya.
He said they have already appointed a technical team, but it has to be approved by the president, although the chief executive will be in charge of the teams’ preparations.

“The technical team was appointed last year and we wrote a recommendation letter to the president to approve the technical team but nothing has been done so far,” said Magiya.
