THE Zimbabwe Handball Federation is set to face disciplinary action from the Sports and Recreation Commission, following its failure to honour the supreme sports body’s directive which required the association to hold elections for the substantive committee before the end of last month.
Initially, the ZHF was scheduled to hold elections during their annual general meeting which was held in Kariba on 31 March, but the polls failed to materialise as some provinces together with the treasurer, Jameson Shumbanhete, who was expected to present the financial report failed to show up.
In a move meant to honour the SRC order, the ZHF had set 29 August as the tentative date for the elections. However, the elections were again called off as there were disagreements among board members on the list of councillors to make the electorate college.
Charity Nyamayedenga, the SRC sports governance officer confirmed the development to Sunday News pointing out that the handball federation will face disciplinary action from the SRC.
“We have given the handball federation a number of chances, but they have failed to act as a national association. They will face the disciplinary committee that will rule in line with Section 30 of the SRC Act which therefore deals with disciplining any sporting association that fails to operate accordingly,” said Nyamayedenga.
The SRC official also added that the SRC board will meet on a date yet to be announced and their ruling will either be that of dissolving or de-registering the federation.
Since 2008 ZHF has been administered by an interim committee, and according to the association’s constitution the term of the outgoing executive expired in March.
