THE Zimbabwe Under-20 men’s and women’s handball teams are scheduled to leave the country this afternoon for the bi-annual International Handball Federation Zone VI tournament in Johannesburg, South Africa from September 23 to 28. Both the men and women teams have 14 players each. The sides won bronze at the same tournament in 2014. The men’s team head coach Allan Mandeya believes the teams are prepared for the challenge.

“The teams have been showing great commitment and I believe they are going to do just fine and bring home medals.

“These are a group of talented youths and we will have no problem with them as they are the finest in the country. We will try our best to better our previous performances,” said Mandeya.

The teams were selected during this year’s National Youth Games held in Chinhoyi.

“It is my hope and belief that some players who participated in the 2014 tournament will bring experience to the teams,” said Mandeya.

Zimbabwe will have two referees — Tinotenda Machakaire and Bekezela Ncube — officiating at the tournament.

Former president of the Zimbabwe Handball Federation Amon Madzvamuse will attend the tournament in his capacity as the vice-chairperson of the Zone VI Handball Committee.
